1. The short version
Some links on warisannusantara.com are affiliate links. If you click one and complete a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate relationships never influence our editorial coverage. We tell you when a link is an affiliate link.
2. Regulatory compliance
United States (FTC). This page is our affiliate disclosure under the Federal Trade Commission's Endorsement Guides, 16 C.F.R. ยง 255. Material connections between advertisers and endorsers โ including affiliate commissions โ must be disclosed clearly and conspicuously. We comply.
United Kingdom (ASA / CMA). The UK Code of Non-broadcast Advertising and Direct & Promotional Marketing (CAP Code) requires that marketing communications be obviously identifiable as such, and that affiliate links be clearly disclosed. Our affiliate links carry an "[affiliate]" tag or a banner disclosing their commercial nature.
European Union (Unfair Commercial Practices Directive 2005/29/EC). We comply with consumer protection law across the EU. Affiliate commissions are not "hidden" โ they are disclosed on the page where they appear and aggregated on this page.
Australia (ACCC). The Australian Consumer Law prohibits misleading conduct. We are not misleading. If a destination is sponsored, we say so. If a recommendation comes from a paid partnership, we say so.
Singapore (CPFTA). The Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act requires us not to engage in unfair practices. We don't.
3. How we mark affiliate links
We use three levels of disclosure, from smallest to largest:
1. Inline tag. Links to affiliate partners carry a small inline tag like `[affiliate]` or `[partner]` immediately after the link text. Hover over the link for a tooltip that says "This is an affiliate link. We may earn a commission if you book."
2. Page-level disclosure. When a page contains multiple affiliate links (e.g., a destination page with hotel links in multiple sections), an info banner at the top of the booking section reads: "Some links on this page are affiliate links. Booking through them costs you nothing extra and supports our work."
3. This page. This page is our canonical affiliate disclosure. Linked from every page that contains affiliate links, in the footer of pages where they appear, and in our Privacy Policy.
4. Editorial independence
Our editorial team has sole control over what we publish. We do not:
- Accept payment in exchange for positive coverage
- Suppress negative coverage in exchange for partnership terms
- Let partners pre-approve content before publication
- Use affiliate relationships as a precondition for editorial coverage
- Assign higher ratings or better placement to paying partners
If a paying partner's quality drops, we drop the partnership. If a free operator provides a better experience, we recommend them over a paying one. We document editorial standards in a separate [Editorial Standards](/legal/editorial-standards) page.
5. Cookie window and tracking
Affiliate programs use cookies to attribute bookings to us. The cookie windows are:
- Booking.com: 30 days after click, or until booking is completed
- Agoda: 30 days
- Klook: 30 days
- GetYourGuide: 30 days
- Tiket, Traveloka: 7-30 days depending on product
- World Nomads: 30 days
- Airalo: 30 days
- iVisa: 30 days
If you click an affiliate link and book within the cookie window, we may earn a commission even if you navigate away from our site in between. We do not control these cookie windows โ they are set by the affiliate partner.
To opt out of affiliate tracking, use your browser's privacy mode, clear cookies after clicking, or use a cookie-blocking extension. See our [Cookie Policy](/cookies) for details.
6. What you pay
The same. Affiliate commissions are paid by the partner out of their own margin, not added to your price. We checked: the rates you see on Booking.com, Agoda, Klook, etc. are the same whether you came from us or directly.
We are not a travel agency and do not add service fees.
7. Conflicts of interest
Our writers and editors are not permitted to:
- Hold financial interests (stock, equity, options) in any company they review
- Accept comped travel from any operator covered by an affiliate partnership, except as disclosed on the article
- Receive personal affiliate commissions from bookings they write about (commissions go to the company)
- Write about a destination where they have a personal relationship that could compromise objectivity, except as disclosed
These rules apply to the editor-in-chief, all staff writers, and all freelance contributors.
8. Changes to this disclosure
We may update this page from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects when changes were made. Material changes to our affiliate practices will be announced on our blog.
Our commitments
- โWe never pay for placement in editorial coverage.
- โWe never suppress a negative review of a paying partner.
- โWe never claim to be 'unbiased' without backing it up โ we are biased toward quality, and we tell you when we are paid.
- โWe never use undisclosed endorsements โ every paid relationship is on the page.
- โWe never charge you extra because you came from us.
