Ai Island & Fort Revenge
A small island with the ruins of Fort Revenge (Dutch 1621) and a small fishing village — quieter than Run, with some of the best snorkelling in the Banda Sea.
Banda Neira Town Walk
A 90-minute walk through the small town of Banda Neira — colonial-era buildings, the harbour, the old Dutch quarter, and the locals who still live in the place the spice trade made.
Fort Belgica
A pentagonal Dutch fort from 1611, restored in 1991 — the view from the bastion tower is one of the most striking in Indonesia.
Fort Nassau
The smaller, older Dutch fort from 1609 — less impressive than Belgica, more atmospheric. Free entry, 15-minute visit.
Run Island (Pulau Run)
The 1-square-mile island that the Dutch traded Manhattan for in 1667. 2,500 nutmeg trees still grow here. A few Dutch ruins, very little else, and the weight of an enormous piece of history.
